The Poison is the 2005 debut album by the Welsh metal band Bullet for My Valentine . It was recorded between March and June 2005 at The Chapel ( Lincolnshire ), Backstage Studios and Notting Pill Studios. On October 3, 2005 the album was released in the UK, January 30, 2006 in Japan and in February of the same year in the USA. Colin Richardson is the producer of the album . In 2006 the album was re-recorded and released. The album achieved the " Silver " in Great Britain and the " Golden Record " in the USA .

Single releases

There were four single releases for the album. The first, "4 Words (To Choke Upon)", was released on March 28, 2005. This single is also included on the band 's US EP called Hand of Blood . The second single for the album is called "Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow (What Can I Do)" and was released on September 19 of the same year. The song was recorded three times on different CDs and can also be heard in the film Saw III . This single reached 37th place on the UK Singles Chart.

The third single was released on February 3, 2006 and is called "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)". It was also released as a mini EP, which contains five songs and a music video. The single reached # 13 on Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks ( Billboard ) and # 30 on Hot Modern Rock Tracks (also on Billboard).

The last single was released on June 23, 2006 and is called " Tears Don't Fall ". The single was also released several times, including a double disc, a 7-vinyl EP and a Germany-exclusive EP CD. “Tears Don't Fall” was also featured in the Hot Mainstream Rock Track Charts (24th place) and the Hot Modern Rock Tracks (32nd place).

Other versions

  • On the alternate version , the song "Spit You Out" was replaced by "Hand of Blood".
  • The US re-release contains five bonus songs: "7 Days", "My Fist, Your Mouth, Her Scars", the Metallica cover " Welcome Home (Sanitarium) " and the acoustic versions of the songs "Tears Don't Fall" and " Domination "( Pantera cover).
  • The UK version of the re-release only has four bonus songs; also “7 Days” and “My Fist, Your Mouth, Her Scars”, as well as two live versions of the songs “Spit You Out” and “All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)”.
  • The Japanese deluxe version contains the live songs "Spit You Out" and "Room 409".

Charts

After the EP Bullet for My Valentine became quite successful, it was foreseeable that the debut album, which was announced a short time later, would also be successful. So not only the album, but also the singles, some of them reached several chart positions in several nations. While the singles reached an official chart placement exclusively in Germany and Great Britain, the album made several chart entries in Austria and the USA.
