The Red Shoes is the seventh studio album by the English singer and composer Kate Bush . It was released in November 1993 with twelve pieces and at the same time provided the musical accompaniment to Bush's film debut The Line, The Cross and the Curve . "The Red Shoes" was to be Kate Bush's last album before a twelve-year musical hiatus, which only started in autumn 2005 the follow-up album Aerial was finished.

In England, "The Red Shoes" reached second place on the album charts and was awarded platinum. In the US Billboard 200 album charts , it was topped 28th, and in Germany 18th according to Media Control.

production

The album was written and produced by Kate Bush. The numerous guest musicians include Prince , the former Procol Harum keyboarder Gary Brooker and Eric Clapton . The piece Moments of Pleasure contains string arrangements by Michael Kamen .

The Bulgarian band Trio Bulgarka , who already supported Bush on The Sensual World , which was released in 1989, provide vocals on several tracks on the album .

Shortly after the album was released in 1993, Kate Bush was not satisfied with the result of the recordings, especially not with the production sound of "The Red Shoes". The same applies to the album "The Sensual World", which prompted Bush to re-arrange, rework and partially re-record selected tracks from both albums in 2011 on the Director's Cut production .
