The Stills were a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, founded in 2000 . In 2011, the band surprisingly announced their breakup.

Band history

The members of the stills were active in various other bands before they were founded. In 2000 they came together in the line-up Gregory Paquet (vocals, guitar), Tim Fletcher (vocals, guitar), Dave Hamelin (drums), Olivier Corbeil (bass). After the group had signed a contract with the label of Vice magazine , the EP Rememberese was released in June 2003 , before the debut album Logic Will Break Your Heart was released a few months later . This was recorded in New York and brought the Stills comparisons with Interpol, based there, as well as with Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen . At the time of publication, the stills had already played concerts with u. a. played the Yeah Yeah Yeahs , The Rapture and Interpol .

In 2005 guitarist Gregory Paquet left the band, and drummer Dave Hamelin took over for him. In addition, keyboardist Liam O'Neal, who had already been heard on the debut, was integrated as a band member. With this line-up, the band recorded their second album Without Feathers , which also featured a number of guest musicians, including Melissa Auf der Maur , Emily Haines , Sam Roberts , Evan Cranley from the stars and Kevin Drew from Broken Social Scene . The band was certified a reinvention for their second work: While bands from the 1980s were mentioned as reference values for the predecessor, in addition to groups that referred to bands from the 1980s, for Without Feathers these were musicians from the 1970s such as the Kinks and the early Elton John .

In 2008 the band's third album, Oceans Will Rise , was released. This was preceded by a label change of the band, which, like Broken Social Scene, are now under contract with the Toronto- based label Arts & Crafts .

In 2009 Gregory Paquet got back in; Dave Hamelin switched back to drums. This year the band received two Juno Awards : the Alternative Album of the Year and the Best Newcomer . The separation followed in 2011.

Others

In 2007 keyboardist Liam O'Neil was a guest musician on National Anthem of Nowhere , Apostle of Hustle's second album .
