action

The widowed Phil gets a job as caretaker of a large apartment building in which a teacher was recently murdered. He and his two daughters Violet and Rose temporarily move into a storage room in the complex. He befriends his colleague Julio and the tenant Beverly. However, he tries to keep the creepy Walter away from his daughters.

After his arrival, the murders pile up. A pensioner is murdered and a neighbor boy disappears. There are no traces, so no one suspects murder. Walter appears to have a worrying interest in Rose. So he brews a Ukrainian voodoo potion and pours it into Rose's bed while Phil and his daughters attend a party at Julio's. When Rose lies down, she feels sick. Phil suspects Walter and forges evidence to get rid of him. He hides the missing pensioner's walking stick in Walter's quarters and calls the police. She arrests Walter, but releases him the next day because nothing else connects him to the disappearance.

When Violet and Rose are unattended, Walter lures Rose into the basement to perform a ritual on her. Phil arrives on time, kills Walter and saves Rose. When he tried to take care of Walter's body, it disappeared. Julio is also looking for Rose and finds things in Phil's quarters that belong to the missing. When he confronts Phil, Julio cuts his throat. Phil throws the body in the boiler, but is caught by the manager Johnson. That's how he kills Johnson too.

In the meantime, Violet visits Beverly. She tells her that she and Rose were twin sisters. However, Rose had always been vicious. One day she started a fire in the house that killed her mother. Phil broke her neck and threw her into the river. Her ghost has haunted Phil ever since. She forces Phil to kill people. They see the victims shortly before they die. For some reason Walter can see them too.

Rose senses that Violet has betrayed her and sends Phil off to kill Beverly. She and Violet flee to the boiler room. Walter is still alive and knocks Phil down. He performs the ritual and pegs Rose in a pentagram. When Beverly sees Rose suffering, she attacks Walter. Phil kills Walter and saves Rose again. Rose doesn't want to kill Beverly anymore, she wants her to be her mother instead. The four of them walk out of the house together.

In the post-credit scene , the place where Walter's body was lying is empty again.
