history

The Wise Man's Fear was founded in 2013 in Indiana's capital Indianapolis under the name A Star-Crossed Wasteland and consists of the two singers Joseph Sammuel and Tyler Eads, the two guitarists Codi Chambers and Nathan Kane, who also acts as a background singer , and from the electric bassist Thomas Barham and the drummer Paul Lierman, which includes the lyrics writes the group. Before that, the musicians played in various groups. Former singer Joe Dennis, Tyler Eads and Thomas Barmann went to high school together and played together in various bands. The trio met drummers Paul Lierman and Nathan Kane early in their college days. The musicians came into contact with Codi Chambers via the Craigslist platform .

Two years after the band was founded, the group released their debut album, Castle in the Clouds, on July 9, 2015, which was produced and published on their own . The group worked with producer Johnny Franck , with whom the group recorded the album within 20 days. Between July 8 and 31, 2016, the group opened up for Sea of ​​Treachery and In Dying Arms on the Fight the Parasites Tour , which ran through the United States .

In 2017, the release of the second studio album, which bears the name Lost City and was also financed entirely out of pocket, followed. On May 1, 2020, the group announced their third studio album Valley of Kings for May 29, 2020 and at the same time announced that they had signed a recording deal with SharpTone Records , which will release the album worldwide.

Since concert tours and festivals cannot be played due to the global COVID-19 pandemic , the musicians began writing new pieces for a musical successor shortly after the release of their third studio album.

The group's music builds on the foundations of Metalcore and extends the boundaries of this musical genre through other musical influences. At Castle in the Clouds and Lost City is two interlocking concept albums , in which the musicians a Fantasy tell credit history. The action of the first three albums takes place in the universe that the musicians called Pneuma . In a 2015 interview, the musicians stated that they were musically influenced by groups like Saosin , City in the Sea , Underoath , Envy on the Coast and Helia .

Musical references from Of Mice & Men , Like Moths to Flames and Parkway Drive are also recognizable. Due to their musical concept, the group gives itself to the label "Fantasycore."

Surname

The band name refers to the fantasy novel of the same name (German: Die Furcht des Wisen ) from the novel series Die Königsmörder-Chronik by the author Patrick Rothfuss . The musicians chose the title of the novel as their band name to make a statement against the destructive power of pride .
