The World is the first seagoing ship to be equipped as a private residence . The residents live on board while the ship sails the world's oceans and spends two to three days in most ports.

General

The World at the Ostseekai in Kiel

The World sails under the flag of the Bahamas and is measured at 43,188 GT . The ship is 196 meters long, has 12 decks and a maximum speed of 18.5 knots . The ship's crew consists of 250 members.

The ship has 165 apartments that are owned by the residents or can be rented. There are three categories of apartments available:

  • Studios from 27 to 78 m²
  • Studio apartments from 54 to 94 m²
  • Apartments from 63 to 360 m²

The apartments are comfortably furnished: the large "living units" have up to three bathrooms and several bedrooms. The residents can cook in their own kitchen or dine in the on-board restaurants. The purchase price of a 130 m² apartment is between $ 600,000 and $ 13.5 million, the annual maintenance costs including meals up to $ 300,000.

Construction and operation

The World was founded on the basis of an idea by Knut U. Kloster jun. built at the Bruces Shipyard Landskrona ( Sweden ) and manufactured by the Fosen Mek. Verksteder A / S, Rissa ( Norway ), completed and completed in March 2002.

In October 2003 the ship was bought by its residents. ResidenSea in Miami remains responsible for the operation and administration of the ship, with the owners bearing the costs. The residents, 142 families, decide on the route, choice of fuel or the color of the Christmas decorations.

Facilities

The World has facilities that are common on board every cruise ship, but they are adapted to the circumstances of the apartment owners. The main restaurant, Portraits , is only open a few days a month. The other restaurants, Asia , with Far Eastern cuisine, Tides , with Mediterranean cuisine, as well as the Marina restaurant and the poolside grill , are available daily. There is a 24-hour service on board and, on request, staff can be provided to serve and prepare meals in the apartments.

There is also a jewelry boutique, a clothing store, a delicatessen shop for daily needs, a fitness center and a spa and wellness area on board. On the upper deck and the sundeck there is a tennis court and a jogging course as well as a golf simulator, on which the 53 best golf courses can be simulated, in addition to the swimming pool. A medical department is available for cases of illness.
