Theo Müller (entrepreneur)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theobald "Theo" Alfons Müller (born January 29, 1940 in Aretsried ) is a German entrepreneur . He is best known for his company, the Theo Müller group of companies .

Life

Theo Müller grew up as the son of the dairy owner Alois Müller in Aretsried in Swabia . In 1971 he took over the management of his father's dairy with four employees. At the end of 1999 the Theo Müller group of companies with the well-known Müllermilch brand was the fourth largest milk processing company in Germany.

In Rainer Zitelmann's book Set yourself bigger goals there is a detailed biographical sketch about Müller. His secret of success is that he made branded products out of the interchangeable product “milk”. Zitelmann quotes Müller: "With a branded product such as 'yoghurt with the corner' I can earn around six to seven times more than with a standard product such as long-life milk, which anyone can produce." only around 15 percent of dairy products have a brand identity, in his group of companies it is around 50 percent.

Move to Switzerland

In 2003 the family moved to Switzerland, to Erlenbach on Lake Zurich , to escape German inheritance tax . At the same time as the family move, Theo Müller Holding (Switzerland) was founded in Switzerland in order to also tax the group's income in the more tax-efficient Switzerland, and thus reduce the total tax amount. In the years before, Müller had received subsidies in the three-digit million range for his dairy in Leppersdorf in the state of Saxony . The then German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder is said to have expressed clear displeasure when he learned of Müller's tax evasion.

When lump-sum taxation was to be abolished in the canton of Zurich at the beginning of 2009 , from which Theo Müller also benefited, he threatened to leave the canton in advance of the referendum if the lump-sum taxation were abolished. Despite the abolition, he stayed in the canton.

Müller has seven children from his marriage to Hanna Bittmann and two daughters with his partner Ines Hüvel.
