Theo Siegle (born July 1, 1902 in Haßloch ; † April 10, 1973 in Heidelberg ) was a German sculptor and medalist .

life and work

Theo Siegle began studying architecture at the Technical University of Stuttgart in 1922 . However, his teachers advised him to study sculpture. In 1923 he moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart (Professor Ludwig Habich ) and in 1924 to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (Professors Janssen, Maximilian Dasio , Adolf Schinnerer ). He specialized in portraits early on . As early as 1926 he had a solo exhibition in Kaiserslautern .

From 1928 on, he worked as a freelancer in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , from 1938 he was teacher for art classes at a high school in Ludwigshafen am Rhein.

From 1946 he headed the sculpture class at the Werkkunstschule Saarbrücken , in the same year he founded the Palatinate Secession together with six other artists , of which he was chairman from 1957 to 1973. 1954 Siegle was appointed professor. From 1961 to 1965 he was freelance in Saarbrücken , after which he lived with his second wife, the painter and graphic artist Karin Bruns , in Heidelberg .

He received numerous honors. Theo Siegle created an extensive work. The focus was on the portrait, along with figurative works, reliefs, medals (including a draft of the Max Slevogt Medal ) and many outdoor facilities, especially memorials for war victims.
