Since 1969, Windges has been designing logos and edited appearances for these companies for numerous clients. One of his ideas was to make the roofs of the LTU planes red. Further work for Messe Düsseldorf , RWE , Bayer AG , action medeor , Viersen district and the State Geological Office followed. He also worked for institutions in Krefeld ( Städtische Bühnen Krefeld / Mönchengladbach , Niederrheinische Sinfoniker, Flachsmarkt Linn ). The redesign of the Krefeld city coat of arms into a graphically simplified form was also a noteworthy work .

Almost 400 posters designed by him were handed over to the Krefeld City Archives in April 2016.

In addition to his work as a graphic artist, he was a theater photographer from 1970 to 1973. In 1971 he met the artist Joseph Beuys and photographed a large series of photos of him. In 1984 he won the international Polaroid competition. The winning pictures were included in the "Polaroid Collection".

Even during his studies, experiments with and around photography were in the foreground at Windges. So he experimented with "cameraless photography in the darkroom" and "photo burn self-exposure". When dealing with the subject of “time”, a cycle of over 450 motifs was created. For his more recent works he chooses the simplicity of representation and created images that he calls “two-dimensional space”. He calls various images of this kind a "multive".

Windges has been the "Doctor humoris causa" of the Krefeld carnival society "Uzvögel" since 1999.
