Theodor Funck

Theodor Franz Funck (born March 10, 1867 in Elberfeld , † February 5, 1919 in Düsseldorf ) was a German painter of the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Theodor Funck studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1890 . There Adolf Schill , Hugo Crola and Johann Peter Theodor Janssen were his most important teachers. He was assistant to the latter for a long time. Funck stayed in Düsseldorf until his death. As his private student he taught Kristjan Raud . From 1895 to 1919 he was a member of the Malkasten artists' association . Together with the painters Carl Becker , Heinrich Heimes , Claus Meyer and Erich Nikutowski , Funck was one of the founders of the Association of 1899 , which split off from the Free Association of Düsseldorf Artists, founded in 1891 . At the German National Art Exhibition for the Industrial and Commercial Exhibition in Düsseldorf in 1902 , he received a “small gold medal” from Wilhelm II . In portrait painting, he preferred the representation in full figure. Funck died of a heart condition. His estate was auctioned off in 1920 at the G. Adolf Pohl auction house in Hamburg.
