Heinrich Heimes

Heinrich Joseph Heimes (born July 12, 1855 in Mayen , † February 18, 1933 in Kronberg im Taunus ) was a German landscape and marine painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Heimes first grew up in Mayen in the Vulkaneifel . From the age of fifteen he lived in Neuenahr . In 1880 he began studying painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . At the Düsseldorf Academy he was a student in the classes of Hugo Crola , Heinrich Lauenstein and Peter Janssen the Elder . Until 1884 he was also a student of the landscape painters Eugen Dücker and Olof Jernberg . In 1884 Heimes moved to the Karlsruhe Art School under Gustav Schönleber .

From 1891 he lived in Düsseldorf again for about twenty years . There he was a member of the artists' association Malkasten . Heimes undertook a variety of study trips to Italy, France, Palestine and Egypt as well as to the Netherlands, especially to Egmond in North Holland (1883–1885), where he got to know the painting of the Hague and Egmond Schools and was in close contact with the American painters Gari Melchers and George Hitchcock had, and after Katwijk (1901–1911). There he also met a number of Düsseldorf painters, such as Helmuth Liesegang and German Grobe .

He became friends with the art collector Wilhelm Niessen (1859–1942) from Neuenahr. Together with the painters Carl Becker , Theodor Funck , Claus Meyer and Erich Nikutowski , Heimes was one of the founders of the Association of 1899 , which split off from the Free Association of Düsseldorf Artists , which was founded in 1891 . In 1911 Heimes and his family settled in Kronberg im Taunus and became a member of the Kronberg painters' colony . Heimes exhibited his works in various major cities in Germany, in Düsseldorf in the Flechtheim Gallery founded in 1913 .
