Theodor Haas

Theodor Haas (born September 22, 1848 in Karlsruhe , † July 8, 1911 in Leipzig ) was an author , editor and philatelist and was a well-known philatelic journalist of his time in Germany. His own philatelic library was one of the most extensive at the time.

Life

Haas was the son of a professor and from 1859 he started collecting postage stamps. After graduating from high school, he began to study theology, but then switched to newer languages ​​and worked as a tutor, including in France . In 1874 he wrote for the magazine Stamp Journal of Brothers mustard . From the 1880s he was in Munich and, among other things, got involved as a founding member of the Bavarian Philatelic Association. For this association he acted in 1884 as chairman of the exhibition commission for the first Munich postage stamp exhibition and the association therefore appointed him honorary president. From 1883 Haas worked as an editor for the Viennese magazine "Erdball und Merkur" by A. Larisch. This resulted in the magazine “Das Postwertzeichen” in 1888, which he then headed. In the meantime he lived in Vienna . In 1889 he was a judge for the second Munich postage stamp exhibition. He then moved to Leipzig and worked for the Senf brothers and was editor of the Illustrierte Briefmarken-Journal. On January 1, 1911, he ended his professional career at the Senf company and retired.
