Theodor Ludwig (born May 25, 1868 in Emmendingen , † October 16, 1905 in Strasbourg ) was a German historian .

Live and act

Theodor Ludwig was the son of a pharmacy owner. After attending the public school in Emmendingen, he graduated from the grammar school in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1881 to 1886 . He then studied history and political science in Strasbourg and Berlin. In 1891 he resumed his studies in Strasbourg. When Harry Bresslau his first work there was the Constance historiography until the 18th century , with which he was awarded his doctorate on November 4, 1893 The work appeared in print in 1894.

Ludwig completed his habilitation on May 29, 1897 and was appointed associate professor in June 1902. He was a permanent contributor to the historical journal and the quarterly social and economic history . In addition to his doctoral thesis, Der Baden Bauer im 18. Jahrhundert (1896) and The German Imperial Estates in Alsace and the Outbreak of the Revolutionary Wars (1898) are the main works of his research.

Theodor Ludwig had been suffering from illnesses since his student days. He died of typhus in 1905 and was buried in the hill cemetery in Emmendingen. A street in Emmendingen is named after him.
