Theodor Meyer (born December 5, 1861 in Sundern , † April 30, 1944 in Levern ) was a Protestant clergyman and a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Meyer was the son of a cantor. He attended the Ulricianum high school in Aurich from 1873 to 1881 , and the universities of Tübingen , Leipzig , Berlin and Bonn until 1884 . On June 13, 1886, he was ordained as an assistant preacher at the Simeons and Garrison Church in Minden , then he was a prison chaplain in Dortmund . On April 1, 1888, he entered the Prussian prison service and worked as a prison chaplain at the penal institutions in Lichtenburg near Torgau and Sonnenburg and from 1895 to 1925 at the cell prison in Herford . Subsequently, he worked as a senior pastor at the Berlin-Moabit remand prison until his retirement on April 1, 1927 .

From 1912 to 1918 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Minden 2 Herford , Halle (Westphalia) and the National Liberal Party .

After the First World War , Meyer joined the German People's Party (DVP). In the 1920s he was chairman of the Reichsbeamtenausschuss of the DVP. From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian state constituent assembly and in February 1921 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged until the end of the third electoral term in 1932.
