Theodor Scheidl

Theodor Scheidl (born August 3, 1880 in Vienna , † April 22, 1959 in Tübingen ) was an Austrian baritone and athlete .

After his school days he was the main cashier of the Austrian Medizinal-Drogen-AG for ten years and was active in athletics as a high jumper , long jumper and discus thrower , as a swimmer and as a gymnast. At the Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens in 1906, he came ninth in the pentathlon and 13th in the standing long jump . His placements in the high jump and discus throw (Greek style) are not recorded, in the standing high jump he was disqualified.

At the same time he began to study singing with Alois Grienauer . He made his debut in 1910 at the Vienna Volksoper . This was followed by engagements in Olomouc , in Augsburg and at the Württemberg court theater in Stuttgart. In 1914 he made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival . From 1921 to 1932 he was a member of the Berlin State Opera , after which he worked at the Deutsches Theater in Prague . In 1937 he retired from the stage and taught at the State Academy of Music in Munich. Since 1944 he has been a singing teacher in Tübingen.
