Theodor Strünck

Theodor Strünck (born April 7, 1895 in Pries ; † April 9, 1945 in Flossenbürg concentration camp ) was a German lawyer and resistance fighter from July 20, 1944 .

Life

Theodor Strünck studied law and received his doctorate in 1924 from the University of Rostock . The lawyer then worked in the insurance industry, towards the end as an insurance director. At first he sympathized with the National Socialists, but then went into opposition to the regime after the " seizure of power " due to the dwindling rule of law.

In 1937, the captain of the reserve was drafted and deployed in the Foreign Office / Defense of the High Command of the Wehrmacht under Hans Oster . He was in close contact with Carl Goerdeler and organized meetings of the resistance in his apartment.

Theodor Strünck was arrested on August 1st after the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 . On August 24th, he was dishonorably expelled from the Wehrmacht by the " Court of Honor " formed on August 2nd, 1944 , so that the Reich Court Martial was no longer responsible for the conviction, and on October 10th, 1944 by the " People's Court " under its President Roland Freisler sentenced to death . He was later transferred to the Flossenbürg concentration camp, where he was hanged on April 9th ​​together with Dietrich Bonhoeffer , Wilhelm Canaris , Ludwig Gehre , Hans Oster and Karl Sack .

The Strünckweg was named after him near the Plötzensee execution site in Berlin-Charlottenburg .
