Theodor von Kramer (born February 10, 1852 in Augsburg , † July 3, 1927 in Traunstein ) was a German architect and Bavarian construction officer .

Life

Born as the son of the architect and university professor Rudolf Joseph von Kramer (1809–1874), he studied architecture at the Munich Polytechnic from 1871–1874 . On behalf of the Bavarian Ministry of Culture, he made copies of decorative palace paintings in Italy. His first teaching activity was at the Kaiserslautern district building trade school in the subject of freehand drawing and decorative painting. Later he was director of the Kunstgewerbeschule Kassel . In 1888 he was appointed director of the Bavarian Trade Museum in Nuremberg , which he directed until his retirement in 1919. He was married to Aloisia-Eleonore von Seisser, who came from a Würzburg patrician family.

Her son was the building officer Friedrich Rudolph Ritter von Kramer, who was born in Karlsruhe in 1881. After completing his studies, he was initially a freelance architect and later a building and senior government councilor in the government of the Schwaben-Neuburg administrative district in Augsburg.

As the director of the Bavarian Trade Museum, Theodor von Kramer had arts and crafts master classes held every year - in the conviction that artistic quality must have a positive effect on sales. For this he was able to win over members of the avant-garde of German Art Nouveau , such as Peter Behrens , Richard Riemerschmid , Paul Haustein and Friedrich Adler, as course instructors . He was the brother of Ludwig von Kramer .
