Theodor von Sendtner
Theodor von Sendtner (born August 24, 1823 in Munich , Kingdom of Bavaria as Theodor Sendtner ; † September 22, 1895 ibid) was a German lawyer , bank director, alpinist and draftsman .
Life
Parental home and childhood
His parents were the writer couple Jakob Sendtner and Barbara "Betty" Sendner , daughter of the publisher Peter Philipp Wolf and sister of the painter Louise Wolf . Theodor had six siblings. His older brother was the botanist Otto Sendtner .
family
Theodor von Sendtner was married twice. His marriage to the wholesaler and magistrate's daughter Clothilde Negrioli on June 27, 1848 had four children, including the chemist Rudolf Sendtner . In 1857, he married Freiin Maximiliane von Pfetten -Füll in his second marriage . Their son Ignaz Sendtner was the father of Paula Kohlhaupt , née Sendtner.
He is buried in the Negrioli-Sendtner family grave in the Old South Cemetery .
career
From 1841 to 1844 Sendtner studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. After completing his studies, in 1846, before taking the state examination, he took up a position at Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechsel-Bank . At first he was inspector of the fire department and later its executive senior civil servant, and from 1871 to 1895 director of all of the bank's insurance companies.
On January 26, 1890, Sendtner received the personal nobility as a knight of the civil service order of the Bavarian Crown and was henceforth allowed to call himself Theodor von Sendtner.
Alpine Club
Sendtner was one of the 36 people who founded the German Alpine Club (DAV) on May 9, 1869 and at the same time the DAV section Munich. In 1873 the DAV merged with the Austrian Alpine Association (ÖAV; until 2014: Oesterreichischer Alpenverein , OeAV ) to form the German and Austrian Alpine Association (DuÖAV, also DÖAV or DuOeAV).
Nine members were elected to the provisional committee of the section, including Theodor Sendtner. From 1869 to 1876 he was a member of the committee of the section, which corresponded to the Central Committee (board of directors) of the Alpine Club.
In 1876 he resigned as a member of the Section Committee . Instead he became I. President of the Association's Central Committee (first chairman). In 1877 the Central Committee set up a sub-committee (working group) for scientific questions, which Sendtner also belonged to.
In addition to his activities in the club management, Sendtner was active as an alpinist, speaker, writer and illustrator. Numerous tours took him mainly to the Eastern Alps. He reported on this in lectures and essays, which he illustrated with drawings and watercolors.
Since its foundation in 1890, Theodor von Sendtner was also a member of the Bavarian Botanical Society.
In 1879, as 1st chairman of the DuOeAV, he obtained the financing of a path along the Krimml waterfalls . In 1900 this path was built by the Pinzgau section. A lookout point at an altitude of 1170 meters is named 'Sendtner Kanzel' in his honor.
Theodor von Sendtner also took part in the editing of the three-volume work "The Development of the Eastern Alps" under the editing of the Austrian alpinist Eduard Richter .
