θ Carinae ( Theta Carinae ) is the brightest star of the open star cluster IC 2602 . Because of the similarity of this star cluster to the Pleiades , IC 2602 is sometimes referred to as the "southern Pleiades".
The star is located in the constellation Carina and is a peculiar main sequence star with spectral class B0Vp. It is located just over 450 LJ from Earth. The star also appears to be a spectroscopic binary star .
