Titan yellow , and titanium yellow , is a yellow-brown dye , the substance group of triazenes belongs and as fluorescence - indicator , acid-base indicator and as a reagent to magnesium is used.

The metal titanium is not contained in this substance (see however titanium white ).

properties

At a pH between 12.0 and 13.0, the yellow changes to red (or brown-yellow).

use

The dye is used as a fluorescent indicator in microscopic stains and a reagent for the detection of magnesium (light red precipitate) in body fluids, and also as a pH indicator. Nickel - zinc - manganese - and cobalt - ions also yield colored solutions and optionally disturb the detection of magnesium. The presence of calcium ions intensifies the color of the color lake formed, which must be taken into account when assessing the detection of magnesium ions
