Thomas A. Schildhauer

Thomas Armin Schildhauer (born January 12, 1963 in Düsseldorf ) is a German surgeon and university professor. He is the Medical Director of the University Clinic of the Ruhr University in Bochum , of the Bergmannsheil University Clinic in Bochum and the director of the surgical clinic there, as well as the medical director of the Duisburg Accident Clinic .

Life

Schildhauer completed his medical studies at the RWTH Aachen . Research stays took him to the USA for several years, for example at the University of Southern California , Los Angeles and at Cornell University , New York . In 1993 he started as an assistant doctor at the surgical clinic of the professional association university clinic Bergmannsheil, the oldest accident clinic in the world and the university clinic of the Ruhr University in Bochum. He completed his specialist training and went back to the USA as a senior physician in the Department of Orthopedics, Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington , Seattle . Back in Bochum, he was appointed senior physician at the surgical clinic of Bergmannsheil. Later he also became the senior physician in charge and at the same time permanent representative of the clinic director at the time, Gert Muhr . At the same time, he completed his habilitation at the Ruhr University in Bochum, where he took on an unscheduled professorship. He then became director of the Surgical Traumatology Center at the Asklepios Clinic St. Georg in Hamburg, before he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the University Clinic for Trauma Surgery at the LKH University Hospital Graz . On October 1, 2010, Schildhauer returned to Bergmannsheil, where he was appointed director of the surgical clinic and medical director of Bergmannsheil, succeeding Gert Muhr, along with a chair at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

Schildhauer is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications. The medical literature database PubMed currently lists over 70 articles with his participation (as of March 2012).

research

His work and research focuses on the biomechanics of the spine and pelvis, clinical and laboratory research in the field of bone substitutes and the use of autologous stem cells in reconstructive surgery . He is currently also conducting studies on the use of exoskeletons in neurorehabilitation.
