Thomas Balkenhol

Thomas Balkenhol (* 1950 in Hadamar ) is a German film editor , author and lecturer , who has also worked as a director and producer of documentaries .

Live and act

Thomas Balkenhol began studying television journalism and documentary film at the Munich University of Television and Film in 1977 . From 1990 he produced his own documentaries and edited around 100 other films as an editor. He worked with internationally known directors such as Werner Herzog , Yeşim Ustaoğlu , Peter Heller and Hans A. Guttner . Balkenhol received an award in the “Best Editing” category at the Ankara International Film Festival for the editing of Özcan Alpers Sonbahar (2009). A joint directorial work with Erman Okay came about with The Scent of Things - A Portrait of Dido Sotiriou (1991).

As a lecturer, Balkenhol had lectureships in Germany and Turkey. Balkenhol is the author of grotesques for the theater and in 1989 co-founded the Turkish Film Festival in Munich . He is editor of the book Karikatürkei published in 1981 . From 1946–1981 .

Balkenhol is the brother of Stephan Balkenhol and Bernhard Balkenhol .

He was a member of the jury of various film festivals in Turkey and is a member of the Bundesverband Filmschnitt Editor eV (BFS) .
