Thomas Bockelmann

Thomas Bockelmann (born March 9, 1955 in Lüneburg ) is a German actor , director and artistic director .

Life

Training and initial engagements

Thomas Bockelmann is the son of the former Lord Mayor of Lüneburg and Frankfurt, Werner Bockelmann . After graduating from high school in 1974 at the Odenwald School in Ober-Hambach , Bockelmann did community service from 1974 to 1976. At the same time he was an employee at the studio stage of the University of Cologne . He completed an apprenticeship as an actor from 1976 to 1980 and completed it with the stage maturity test . At the same time he studied philosophy , theater studies and history at the University of Cologne.

From 1981 to 1985 he initially worked as an assistant director at the Theater an der Ruhr , the Hamburg Thalia Theater , the Berlin Schillertheater and the Schauspielhaus Köln under directors such as Roberto Ciulli , Dieter Wedel , Benjamin Korn and Hans Neuenfels . From 1985 to 1988, Bockelmann worked as a freelance director at the Theater am Turm in Frankfurt am Main , among others .

Directorships

From 1988 to 1993 Bockelmann was director of the Zimmertheater Tübingen and from September 1994 to August 1996 in the same function at the Lower Saxony North State Theater in Wilhelmshaven . From 1996 to 2004 he was general director of the Münster City Theaters , where he planned and organized the 19th NRW Theatertreffen in 2000. Since the 2004/05 season, Bockelmann has been artistic director and drama director at the Staatstheater Kassel , where he succeeded Christoph Nix .

Teaching activities

From 1988 to 1994 Bockelmann was a lecturer for theater at the Leibnitz College of the University of Tübingen .

family

Bockelmann is the cousin of Udo Jürgen Bockelmann, who was known as a pop singer under the stage name Udo Jürgens . He also has a daughter and is married to actress Christina Weiser.

Memberships

Bockelmann is a member of the administrative committee of the German Stage Association .

Awards

Bockelmann's staging of Mercedes by Thomas Brasch at the Tübingen room theater was honored as the best staging at the 1990 Baden-Württemberg Theater Days in Heidelberg .
