Thomas Buberl

Thomas Buberl (born March 24, 1973 in Haan ) is a German manager . He is CEO of the French insurance group AXA .

Career

After completing an apprenticeship at Deutsche Bank , Buberl studied business administration at WHU in Vallendar and business administration at Lancaster University in the UK . In 2002 he received his doctorate from the University of St. Gallen .

He started his professional career at the Boston Consulting Group back in 2000 . In 2005 he became a member of the management team for Marketing and Sales at the Winterthur Group and remained so when the company was taken over by AXA in 2006. In 2008 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zurich Financial Services in Switzerland. In 2012 Buberl moved back to AXA and was appointed CEO of the most important German subsidiary. In March 2015 he also became a member of the global AXA Management Committee.

In March 2016, AXA announced the age-related retirement of the long-standing CEO and Chairman of AXA, Henri de Castries . The company announced that Buberl would succeed him as CEO of AXA in September 2016. Prior to this, he gave up the chairmanship of AXA Germany and was elected chairman of the supervisory board of the German subsidiary.

Further mandates

In 2015, Buberl was appointed to the board of trustees of the non-profit Bertelsmann Foundation . When he was elected to the Bertelsmann Group's supervisory board in 2018, he left the Bertelsmann Stiftung.
