Thomas Fearnley (born December 27, 1802 in Fredrikshald, today Halden , † January 16, 1842 in Munich ) was a Norwegian painter .

Thomas Fearnley, whose grandfather came from Yorkshire, was educated at the Christiania Art School and from 1821 at the Copenhagen Academy. A prospectus from Copenhagen won him the favor of the Crown Prince (later King) Oskar . From Stockholm , where Fearnley stayed from 1823 to 1827 to complete his studies, he traveled through Norway and Sweden, then spent a year and a half in Dresden from 1829-30 , practicing his art there under Johan Christian Clausen Dahl's direction, and stayed there for a long time in Salzburg and Munich.

Several of his best landscapes date from that time; B. the view of the Marumelf, the Jostedalsgletscher , a duck hunt on the Koenigssee etc. In 1832 Fearnley went to Italy to stay here for three years until he turned to Switzerland in 1835 , where he mainly focused on the representation of the Glacier tried, and then went to Paris, and from here returned to his homeland via the Netherlands and London . Here Romsdalen, with its peculiar nature, became the subject of his studies. His larger works include: the Romsdalhorn , the Labrofall near Kongsberg , the Grindelwald glacier , a section from Vindhellen , Gudvangen and Sorrento . After traveling again to England , Switzerland and Holland , he died on January 16, 1842 in Munich . His tomb is in the grove of honor at Vår Frelsers Cemetery in Oslo.
