Life

There are almost no usable sources about Thomas Foster. What is certain is that he lived at least temporarily in Los Angeles, was a member of the Democratic Party and practiced full-time as a doctor. His life data have not been passed down. In 1855 he was elected mayor of the then still small city of Los Angeles with 192 votes to 179. He held this office between May 9, 1855 and May 7, 1856. His main concern was to improve the infrastructure, namely the water and sewage systems and the education system through the construction of new school buildings in which girls were also taught. In 1855 there was a freight line to Salt Lake Citythat stimulated the city's trade. In the same year, an earthquake caused severe damage in Los Angeles.

Thomas Foster was not related to Stephen Clark Foster , who was both his predecessor and his successor. After the end of his time as mayor, his track is lost again.
