After the death of Mayor Henry Mellus , he was appointed acting mayor of the city. He held this office between December 26, 1860 and January 7, 1861. Then the newly elected Damien Marchesseault took up the office that he had already held before Mellus. After the end of his short time as acting mayor, the trail of William Woodworth is lost again.
