Thomas Joseph Flanagan

Thomas Joseph Flanagan (born October 23, 1930 in Rathmore , County Kildare , Ireland ; † October 9, 2019 in San Antonio , Texas , United States ) was an Irish-American clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in San Antonio .

Life

Thomas Joseph Flanagan, the eldest of six children, studied philosophy and theology at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) in Thurles, Ireland, and was ordained priestly on June 10, 1956 for the Archdiocese of San Antonio , located in San Antonio , Texas . He was active in pastoral care, spiritual for the Vincentian Community , board member for the Assumption Seminary in San Antonio and diocesan chaplain of the Columbus Knights .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Bavagaliana and auxiliary bishop in San Antonio on January 5, 1998 . The Archbishop of San Antonio, Patrick Fernández Flores , donated him episcopal ordination on February 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Edmond Carmody , Bishop of Tyler , and John Edward McCarthy , Bishop of Austin .

On December 15, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement. He last lived at the Padua Place residence for retired clergy in San Antonio.
