Thomas König (born October 16, 1963 in Germany ) is a German handball player and trainer .

Career

As a teenager, König played handball at VfL Neckargartach from the E to B youth . During his studies in Mainz , König played for Eintracht Mombach . He later played for SF Budenheim in the regional league and TSB Heilbronn-Horkheim in the 2nd Bundesliga .

In Horkheim, König was under contract as a player-coach until 1994. As a result, he also moved to the district division TSV Weinsberg as a player- coach , with whom he rose to the Württembergliga via the regional league and the association league in 1998.

In the summer of 2003, König took over the coaching position of the second division team TV Kornwestheim .

In July 2006, König moved to the second division TSG Friesenheim . In the 2009/10 and 2013/14 seasons he was promoted to the Bundesliga with TSG , but both times the club was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga after just one season.

On July 1, 2015, König moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga TVB 1898 Stuttgart . In the 2015/16 season he secured relegation with the TVB in the Bundesliga, but was given leave of absence after the end of the season.

In addition to his work as a club coach, König also looked after various selection teams, for example he was HVW national coach for women .

Others

König completed a sports degree at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and was awarded the prize for the best of his year. In addition to his work as a trainer, he is also employed as a sports teacher.

Thomas König is married and has two sons who are also active as handball players. Both Sven König and Jan König play in the top league for TSV Weinsberg .
