Thomas Lubowski (* 1952 in Bremen ) is a German journalist and former daily newspaper - editor in chief .

Life

Lubowski grew up in Bremen. After graduating from high school, he studied theology , philosophy and journalism at the Free University of Berlin . In 1980 he began an editorial traineeship at Hamburger Abendblatt , whose local editorial office he later headed for five years.

In 1990 he became deputy editor-in-chief of the Berliner Zeitung . In 1993 he succeeded Klaus J. Groth as editor-in-chief of the Lübecker Nachrichten . During Lubowski's tenure as editor-in-chief, there were arguments between the newspaper and the then mayor of Lübeck, Michael Bouteiller , who spoke of a smear campaign by the newspaper against himself and saw his reputation damaged. The Lübecker Nachrichten had reported that after the arson attack in Lübeck on an asylum seekers' accommodation in the night of January 18, 1996 in Lübeck Hafenstrasse, it was already clear to Bouteiller a few hours later that the fire had been an attack by right-wing extremists. Lubowski was sentenced to cease and desist in July 1996. In October 1996, Bouteiller reached a resolution supported by the SPD and Bündnis90 / Die Grünen to publish an official gazette in Lübeck, the first edition of which appeared in November 1997. During Lubowski's time when Lubowski was responsible for the Lübecker Nachrichten as a journalist , in December 1998 the German Press Council filed a complaint filed jointly by the competing journalists' organizations , the German Union of Journalists and the German Union of Journalists, about a violation of the Press Code (Section 7 , " Surreptitious advertising ") publicly reprimanded. The complaint related to parts of a series of articles about local businesses.

Thomas Lubowski was replaced as editor-in-chief of Lübecker Nachrichten in December 1998 ; he was succeeded by Manfred von Thien at the beginning of 1999 .

Lubowski has been married to the journalist Karin Lubowski (* 1958) since 1993 and has three children with her.
