Manfred von Thien

Manfred von Thien (* 1955 ) is a German journalist . He was the “agent of the publisher” for the Madsack media group .

Life

Manfred von Thien studied law and psychology . He volunteered at the Axel Springer AG belonging Hamburger Abendblatt and headed the city desk . He was editor-in-chief of the Hamburger Morgenpost and from October 1996 as the successor to Wolfgang Kryszohn of the Berlin tabloid B.Z. published by Ullstein Verlag , a Springer subsidiary. In June 1998 he was replaced by Franz Josef Wagner . Von Thien tried to save the shrinking BZ circulation with the "panacea sex".

Von Thien was temporarily employed as "Editor-in-Chief for Special Tasks" at Axel Springer Verlag. On January 1, 1999, he joined the Lübecker Nachrichten , at that time a 49 percent subsidiary of Springer, succeeding Thomas Lubowski as editor-in-chief. In 2006 Ulrich Exner , whom von Thien had brought in as one of his deputies from the Hamburger Morgenpost to the Lübecker Nachrichten, became his successor. On April 1, 2006, von Thien took over the editor-in-chief of the Ostsee-Zeitung (OZ) in Rostock , a subsidiary of Axel Springer AG and Lübecker Nachrichten GmbH that was shared in equal parts. In February 2009, von Thien took over as editor-in-chief of the Lübecker Nachrichten in addition to his function as RSG editorial director. He replaced Ulrich Exner, who became deputy editor-in-chief of the Berliner Morgenpost . In March 2011, von Thien became the “agent of the publisher” for the Madsack media group. His job was to coordinate the cooperation between the group's 17 daily newspapers. Von Thien resigned from this position in July 2013 at his own request and is now a consultant at Madsack.

Since 2016 he has been working as a freelance consultant for publishers, managing directors and editors-in-chief as well as a trainer for editorial offices.

Von Thien is married and lives in Hamburg and Ibiza .
