Thomas Sandberg

Thomas Sandberg (born November 7, 1952 in Berlin ) is a German photographer and appointed member of the German Society for Photography . He works as a freelance photographer and lecturer in photography and is head of the Ostkreuzschule photography school.

biography

Sandberg, son of the graphic artist and publicist Herbert Sandberg , completed his photographic training from 1969 at DEWAG Werbung Berlin, later at Neue Berliner Illustrierte with Jochen Moll , for whom he worked as a photo journalist from 1972 to 1989 .

From 1982 he studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig under Horst Thorau and Peter Pachnicke and in 1987 graduated as a photographer .

Since 1990 he has worked as a freelance photographer for international journals and magazines, including Stern , Der Spiegel , Business Week , New York Times and Sunday Times . In the same year he founded the Ostkreuz photo agency together with Sibylle Bergemann , Jens Rötzsch , Harald Hauswald , Ute and Werner Mahler and Harf Zimmermann .

In 1997 he invented the topixx database system , which also enables freelance photographers to sell their pictures over the Internet.

In 1997/98 he accompanied the SPD candidate for Chancellor Gerhard Schröder as a photographer during the election campaign up to his election as Federal Chancellor .

In 2003 he was a lecturer for photo reportage at the Photography Academy on Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin.

Since 2005 he has been the director of the Ostkreuz School for Photography in Berlin-Weißensee , which he founded together with Werner Mahler.

Since the beginning of the 2000 years own projects in the field of artistic photography.
