Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer (born February 4, 1946 in Zell am See ) is an Austrian dance teacher and director of the Elmayer dance school in Vienna .

Life

Thomas Elmayer spent his youth in Vorarlberg . After studying economics in Vienna and at the University of St. Gallen , he worked for companies in Switzerland , the Federal Republic of Germany and overseas from 1970 . In 1987, he took the testamentary request of his (adoptive) grandfather Willy Elmayer-Vestenbrugg accordingly, the management of the dance Elmayer. He was married and has two children.

Services

Schäfer-Elmayer is an expert on questions of etiquette , especially international business etiquette and the sophisticated manners that are cultivated at traditional Viennese balls such as the Vienna Opera Ball . He also works as a management trainer, advises companies on corporate culture and business etiquette and gives lectures on the subject of etiquette. In September 2006, Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer caused a sensation with a poster campaign with which he apparently intervened in the Austrian National Council election campaign. His picture could be seen on posters with the inscription “Everything red-white-red”, including the slogan “For more style and decency in our country” and the signature “Independent List Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer”. It was a hidden advertising campaign by the Austrian Kronen Zeitung under the slogan “Don't believe it until it is in the Krone”, which has already been used in other subjects.

From 2003, Schäfer-Elmayer organized the opening of the Vienna Opera Ball by debutants in addition to other ball events . After the opening he gave the command “Alles Walzer” in the tradition of Johann Strauss . In 2009, however, it was stipulated that the debutants themselves could speak this command in a choir.

Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer also became known in the ORF show Dancing Stars , where he acted as a specialist juror between 2005 and 2016. In 2006 he was awarded the Austrian title of professor .

criticism

Schäfer-Elmayer is mainly criticized from the conservative side. He is accused of giving away the intellectual legacy of Willy Elmayer-Vestenbrugg in favor of better publicity. In addition, according to his opponents, he tolerates behavior that was previously considered to be a misbehavior. His etiquette books are characterized by more progressive content that goes further than that of the average citizen.

Works

His book "Der Elmayer - good behavior asked" followed the standard work by Willy Elmayer-Vestenbrugg: Good behavior again asked from 1957 and the book by his parents Diether and Nora Schäfer-Elmayer: The new Elmayer - good behavior always asked from 1969.
