Thomas van de Scheck (born January 17, 1965 in Cairo , Egypt ) is a German photographer and artist.

Life

Van de Scheck, born in Cairo in 1965, trained as a lithographer from 1985 to 1988. He then expanded his work spectrum in various creative areas, initially as a sound engineer for Radio Hamburg and Klassik Radio . He was also the assistant to the Hamburg fashion photographer Lars Matzen. As a writer, he wrote advertising copy for agencies and stories for women's magazines. In the music genre he worked as a bassist in the group " Cancer Barrack " and as a singer and guitarist in " Hell-O-Matic " . He composed for the musical “ Bonifatius ” and the techno project “ B-Dominus ”. Van de Scheck has been living and working as a freelance photo artist since 2002.

style

Van de Scheck's visual language works through a self-sufficient representation and clear white space. His models carry the image concept, backgrounds are deliberately avoided. The reduction helps to create an aesthetic that is primarily the basis of the topic: social criticism, changing values and the human psyche. With the addition of eroticism, surreality and irony, he leads the viewer to a closer examination of the image content.

Van de Scheck sees himself as a photographer, director and storyteller in equal measure. His own visual language, various exhibitions and numerous photo works for fashion labels and magazines make him an important source of ideas for the fetish and gothic scene .

In 2004 and 2006, his two illustrated books CUTS and HELP (Hell: Enters: Life: Permanently) were selected as the selection title of the year by the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels .
