Harry S. Morgan (born August 29, 1945 in Essen , † April 30, 2011 in Düsseldorf ; actually Michael Schey ) was a German journalist , director and producer (mainly of pornographic films ).

Life

After graduating from high school in Essen-Werden in 1966 and doing military service, Morgan worked under Jens Feddersen for two years as a trainee at the Neue Ruhr Zeitung in Essen, at the same time he attended the journalists' college in Munich. He then worked for the BILD newspaper in the Ruhr area for three years . In the following years he worked as a freelancer for the news magazine Der Spiegel , the Stern and for BILD am Sonntag .

Morgan studied photography at the Folkwang University in Essen with Professor Otto Steinert and was a co-founder of the “Visum” group. In 1991 he directed the crime film Pommes Rot-Weiß with Michael Lesch .

Morgan owned a public relations agency in Düsseldorf . As part of a Spiegel report on pornography, he first came into direct contact with the porn industry in 1972. This resulted in the first PR assignments in the field of pornography for his agency. In the mid-seventies he worked temporarily as a still photographer for porn films in the Munich area. He later gave up his agency to work as a camera assistant at Bavaria Film in Munich. Among other things, he worked as a camera assistant for Jost Vacano . His last production at Bavaria in this function was the ZDF four-parter Wallenstein in 1978 . In the 1980s he worked as a freelance reporter for RTL news.

Morgan began directing and producing porn on the Happy Video Private series in 1986 . The magazine Der Spiegel wrote in an obituary for the Happy Video Privat film series :

“He got 'normal couples next door' on camera, told them to do what they enjoyed most, and filmed them. In their home. "

In the series, he interviewed couples having sex before filming them. The interviews were mostly about sex. He was always in the picture during the interviews.

The American Dirty Harry from New York gave him the idea for the Happy Video Privat series . He ran through New York with a small video camera and spoke to normal women on the street in New York with the words “Show me your tits!”. This actually persuaded some women to show their breasts. Dirty Harry turned the filmed actions into a television show that was shown on a local cable channel. Schey saw the program on a visit to the USA and was encouraged to try something similar in Germany. He called himself Harry S. Morgan now. The rumor was later circulated that the name was derived from the film character Dirty Harry , a police officer whom Clint Eastwood played several times.

A new episode of Happy Video Privat came out about every two months . In each video, later DVD, five to seven pairs could be seen. Initially, the couples had to be addressed by Morgan himself. Later on, around 15 couples reported themselves per month. The findings from the film series were clear to Morgan, as he said in an interview with Giddyheft magazine:

“Normal Germans want to have and see nice, normal sex. They want to sweat, moan a little and they want to be proud of themselves because they lasted for 20 minutes. "

Morgan's Happy Video Privat series was the longest running porn film series in Germany and Europe. The series ran from 1986 to 2011 with 116 editions under Morgan's direction and he became known in the porn industry through this video series. For this and other series, Morgan received his first Venus Award in Berlin in 1997 as Best Series Director.

Morgan worked for the Videorama company . He is considered the discoverer of the later porn stars Gina Wild and Vivian Schmitt . He has worked with Richard Langin and Henry van Damp , among others . His various, in some cases very successful, film series Gina Wild - Now it's getting dirty , Young Debutantes , Maximum Perversum , Teeny Exzesse , Happy Video Private , Joker , Whackers , Old Ladies Extreme , Extreme , Bizarre and Fetish became known . Morgan made around five hundred porn films. Morgan demonstrated sexual practices such as double penetration , fisting, and urination in some of his films . He was the first director to show these types of sex in films in Germany.

Morgan has appeared repeatedly on television shows about pornography. Shortly before his death, the show Respect, Self-Experiment! How do I become a porn director? shot for ZDFneo .

In the show, the actress and comedian Mirja Regensburg wanted to find out how she could become a porn director. She took part in four days of shooting with Morgan. The program was broadcast on September 17, 2011, after Morgan's death.

Morgan last lived in Düsseldorf. He was found dead in his apartment there on April 30, 2011, the police assume a natural cause of death.
