Andy Strauss

Andy Strauss , actually Andreas Günter Strauss (born September 27, 1981 in Leer , East Friesland ), is a poetry slammer , slam master , writer and actor .

life and work

Strauss attended the Ubbo-Emmius-Gymnasium Leer from 1993 to 2002 . After completing his community service, he first began studying computer science , but then decided to study sociology at the University of Münster . There he was active in university policy for the independent student councils forum (uFaFo) and worked for them between 2008 and 2009 as a cultural advisor for the AStA.

Strauss has been on poetry slam stages across Germany since the end of 2006. After his book EstablishMensch from 2009, his second book Nightmares was published in November 2010 . He won twice at the WDR Poetry Slam and twice at the Slammer Filet . For his first short film slam he created the short film Knabberbagger . Strauss is a multiple participant in the German International Poetry Slam (GIPS) and reached the finals there in 2007 and 2012. In 2008 Strauss took part in the German speaking championships in Zurich, 2009 in Düsseldorf, 2010 in the Ruhr area, 2011 in Hamburg, and 2012 in Heidelberg. In 2008 he organized a poetry slam for the first time in his former hometown of Leer.

He made his theatrical debut in 2010. Under the direction of Philip Gregor Grüneberg, he played Nils in Igor Bauersima's play Context in the Theater im Pumpenhaus and at the Theater im Depot Dortmund (see Depot Immermannstraße ). For Alma Hoppes Lustspielhaus he developed the stage play Slam Goes Cabaret (2012) together with Frank Klötgen , Philipp Scharrenberg , Bumillo , Writer, Julian Heun, Alex Burkhardt and Hanz .

For the Petra-Meurer-Theatertage 2013 he wrote, directed and played the absurd play It doesn't matter, the play is by Andy Strauss .

In 2014 he directed the twelve-hour radio play adaptation of the novel Henry Frottey - His First Case: Part 2 - The End of the Trilogy by Jan Philipp Zymny , in which he also acts as a speaker and sound designer.

In August 2015 Andy Strauss took part in the biggest poetry slam in the world to date on the Hamburg trotting track in front of over 5000 spectators.

His speaking piece The Failure of Ourselves - and the absurd ideas that the ancestors convey to us - premiered in December 2015.

Andy Strauss is a member of the LMBN reading stages in the domicil in Dortmund, "Die 2 DREI" in the Cuba Nova in Münster, and "Overtaking Pirates" in the Faust Hanover.
