Thornton F. Bradshaw

Thornton Frederick Bradshaw (born August 4, 1917 in Washington, DC , † December 6, 1988 in New York City ) was an American university professor and manager.

Thornton Bradshaw attended Phillips Exeter Academy and earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1940 and a master's in 1942 . In the same year he received a professorship at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration , which he held until 1952 - interrupted from military service in the United States Naval Reserve (USNR) from 1943 to 1945 . In 1950 he received a D.Sc. from Harvard University.

From 1952 to 1956 Bradshaw was a partner at the management consultancy Cresap, McCormick & Paget , before he moved to the Atlantic Richfield Company , in whose management he held various executive positions, since 1964 together with Robert O. Anderson (1917-2007) as President. From 1981 Bradshaw was CEO of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), which he led back to profitability together with the subsidiary National Broadcasting Company (NBC) and whose quite controversial sale for 6.3 billion US dollars to General Electric he he 1985 / 1986 organized. Most recently, Bradshaw was Chairman of the MacArthur Foundation .

Bradshaw made a name for himself with strategic business planning. He called for a humanistic, responsible form of capitalism.

In 1988 Bradshaw was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . He holds honorary doctorates from the following universities: Pepperdine University (1974), Villanova University (1975), Claremont University (1981).

Bradshaw was married to Sally Davis from 1942 until the divorce, and the marriage had three children. In 1974 he was married to Patricia Walter for the second time, who brought four children into the marriage. Thornton F. Bradshaw died in New York Hospital of complications from a cerebral haemorrhage .
