Thorsten Schmidt (born February 12, 1961 in Kiel ) is a German publisher and author of several books. His main focus is music.

Life

Schmidt grew up in Kiel, where he graduated from high school in 1980 . After his community service , which he completed in 1981 and 1982, he began studying sociology , politics and literature in 1982 . At that time he earned his living doing journalistic activities for various daily newspapers , before he turned to acting in 1985 and completed an acting training until 1988.

In 1988 he got an engagement at the Komödie Kassel , in 1989 he moved to the Staatstheater Braunschweig , to which he belonged until 1992. During this time, the documentary Who Liberated Helgoland was made , for which Schmidt wrote the screenplay and directed . He produced the film from 1990 to 1993 together with Kurt Denzer . In 1992, in collaboration with Thomas Rehwagen, the book Mach Schau! The Beatles in Hamburg .

In 1994 and 1995 Schmidt was the project manager for “100 Years of Cinema” for the “Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft LAG Jugend & Film Niedersachsen e. V. ”, for which he organized a traveling exhibition and a children's cinema museum, before founding the publishing house “ Kultur Buch Bremen ”in 1996 , where he published the yearbook “ Black Pages ”for record collectors . The previous edition was published in 2004.

From 2000 Schmidt was also responsible for the conception and program management of the book series "achterbahn music" at Achterbahn AG ; from 2005 he continued his studies in sociology and cultural studies. His last publication so far was in 2009 the book "Jimi Hendrix auf Fehmarn".

In 2011/12 Schmidt was press officer at the Bremen six-day race .

Schmidt works as a radio host for various web radios. His main topics are the music of the Neue Deutsche Welle (weekly broadcast: "Blaue Augen") and German rock and pop music from six decades (weekly broadcast: "Backstage").

Schmidt has been a lecturer at the University of Bremen in the sociology department since the 2013/14 winter semester. His main research area is "visual sociology".

Black pages

From 1996 to 2004 Schmidt published the yearbook "Black Pages - Service for collectors of records and CDs". The respective editions contained, among other things, address lists that were of interest to record collectors, overviews of dates for record exchanges and lists of fanzines . In addition, the individual issues contained changing features on specific topics, for example " Paris for record collectors", " Tony Sheridan and the almost forgotten song", "Interview with Peter Kraus " or "Hurray hurray - PayPal is here" (excerpt from the Edition for 2004). The yearbook was well received by the music press: The hard rock and heavy metal magazine “Break Out” called it “required reading for record collectors and music enthusiasts”, and Musikexpress / Sounds described the book as “an indispensable work”.
