Jockstrap (protective clothing)
A jockstrap ( Latin suspendere , to hang up), also groin protector , testicle protector , ball protector ( loosely also bag holder or egg cup ), is a protective clothing , a corset for men, made of thick tissue or as a shell to protect the penis and testicles from blows, strain and injuries to protect. A jockstrap is mostly used by ballet dancers, riders , athletes (especially martial artists , goalkeepers ), riot police and soldiers as part of the regalia worn. Athletes prefer to wear jockstraps over ordinary underwear . A variant of this, a jockstrap (jock for short), is underwear that was created in the USA .
Historical cavaliers wore a prestigious suspensory stuffed with cotton wool in their trousers to make the genitals appear larger, nowadays prestigious suspensors are also worn as sexy underwear or figure-hugging underwear ( men's shapewear ). The members of the violence in the film A Clockwork Orange wore jockstraps .
Ballet dancers wear jockstraps in addition to their protective function so that the body silhouette is not impaired by folds or constrictions in underwear and to give the genitals a uniform shape.

During X-ray examinations , a gonadal protection suspensorium ensures that X-rays do not reach the germ cells . As a jockstrap also previously carrying bag designated holding a hanging part of the body at a certain height and should wear, especially used in inflammation of the scrotum and testicles as well as the female breast.
Jockstrap
The jockstrap was originally used to protect the penis and scrotum of male athletes from injury. It consists of an elastic waist band, a bag-like bandage for lifting the scrotum and two elastic straps that run up to the waist band on the left and right below the buttocks. The buttocks are completely exposed. To protect the genitals, a hard plastic or foam cup ( jock cup ) can be inserted into the bandage bag .
As erotic underwear, the jockstrap is also worn directly on the skin.
etymology
The word jockstrap has probably been in use since 1897 and originated from the English word jockey straps , which describes underwear specially developed for cyclists and riders .
The bike jockey strap for cyclists was first manufactured in the USA in 1874.
The term jockey for equestrians has been used in English since 1670.
Jock was also slang for penis until the mid-19th centuryand probably goes back to the male Scottish first name Jock . Nowadays, athletes and athletes are colloquially referred to as jocks , which is derived from the term jockstrap .
