description

Tilia henryana is a deciduous tree that reaches heights of up to 25 m. The bark is light gray. The buds are hairy yellow or smooth. The alternate, stalked leaves are simple. The yellow hairy petiole is 3 to 5 cm long. The round leaf blade has a diameter of 6 to 10 cm. The underside of the leaf is hairy yellow or only the veins are hairy. The top of the sheet is smooth. Unique among the linden trees are the often asymmetrical leaves with awns up to 1 cm long on the sawn edge (appendages of the veins). There are stipules present.

30 to 100 flowers are grouped together in a zymous inflorescence that is about 10 to 12 cm in size. The 7 to 10 cm × 1 to 1.3 cm large, yellow-haired bracts on the underside is fused with the inflorescence stem over a length of 3 to 5 cm. The hairy flower stalks are 7 to 9 mm long. The flowers are very fragrant. The hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical flowers are five-fold. The narrow, egg-shaped sepals are 4 to 5 mm in size and hairy on the underside. The petals are 6 to 7 mm in size. The stamens are 4 to 5 mm long. The staminodes are a little shorter. The ovary is hairy and the stylus is about 4 mm long.

The hairy, pentagonal fruits have a diameter of 7 to 9 mm.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 164.
