Tilsi

Tilsi (German Tilsit ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in southeast Estonia . Until 2017 it was the main town of the former rural community Laheda (Laheda vald) in Põlva County . Since then, Tilsi has belonged to the Põlva municipality .

The village has 394 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located thirteen kilometers north of the city of Võru .
Nearby are the two lakes Tilsi Pikkjärv (24.7 hectares) and Tilsi Kõrbjärv (13 hectares). With the territorial reform in the Estonian SSR in 1977, the villages of Koolitarõ (Koolitare) and Viuperä were incorporated.
A village school was founded as early as 1766. Today there is a primary school and a kindergarten in the place.
Well
In 1749 the independent manor Tilse was mentioned in a document. From 1833 until it was expropriated as part of the Estonian land reform in 1919, it belonged to the noble German Baltic family Roth .
In the middle of the 18th century, the one-story main building made of wood was built. It was extended between 1866 and 1885 through a renovation. In 1921 the mansion was rededicated as a children's home, which moved into a new building in 1978.
Some of the outbuildings as well as the estate's park, which extends to Lake Tilsi Pikkjärv , have also been preserved.
