Hans Graf (* 1890 in Lörrach ; † October 9, 1968 ) was a German politician and mayor of Deggendorf from January 2, 1934 to April 26, 1945 during the Nazi dictatorship .

biography

Graf attended a humanistic grammar school and after studying in Halle (Saale) and Darmstadt became a graduate engineer in electrical engineering.

As a volunteer , he took part in the First World War from 1914 to 1918 . He then moved to Landshut for professional reasons , where he married in 1921 and had two sons. In 1930 he was transferred and the family moved to Deggendorf.

On August 29, 1939 Graf was drafted into the Wehrmacht . Until he was discharged from military service on August 8, 1943, he was stationed in Poland, France and Belgium.

After his internment from April 1945 to July 1948, he lived with his wife in Landshut.

National Socialism and Politics

Graf was admitted to the NSDAP as early as the spring of 1921 with membership number 14,476 . In 1923 he took part in the Hitler putsch in Munich. After the NSDAP was banned and re-established, Graf rejoined the party in 1925, and in 1932 he joined the SA .

In the SA, Graf was shortly leader of Standard 32 with authority over 2000 men. After several stages, he was promoted to SA Oberführer on January 30, 1939.

In March 1933 Graf was appointed SA special commissioner for the Deggendorf district. In the early days of his work as a special commissioner, there were arrests, but also deportations to the Dachau concentration camp .

Since the city council was re-elected due to the law of equalization , the unanimous election of Graf as second mayor took place on April 26, 1933. After Mayor Anton Reus was forced to retire on October 31, 1933, Graf was unanimously elected mayor on January 2, 1934 by the city ​​council, which was only made up of NSDAP members .

As mayor, Graf wanted to build a new summer pool, but this failed because of problems with the building site. During his tenure, however, the successful expansion of the hospital, road improvements and residential construction projects fell.

During his military service from 1939 to 1943 he was represented in the mayor's office by Ortsgruppenführer Sebastian Weiß.

As SA-Oberführer Graf was appointed district staff leader of the Volkssturm in 1944, but he was not deployed. On April 28, 1945 he was arrested as an SA leader and interned in Hersbruck . After the camps in Plattling and Regensburg , he was classified in the judicial chamber proceedings on July 5, 1948 - also on the basis of 23 affidavits - as a minor burden and released from internment.
