biography

Tim Cafe lives in Queenstown and learned to ski at Coronet Peak at the age of three . There he also contested his first FIS races in August 2002 and his first starts in the Australia New Zealand Cup followed six weeks later . In April 2005 he was on the podium for the first time at FIS races and in September 2006 he achieved his first podium finish in the Australia New Zealand Cup with second place in the Super-G at Mount Hutt . He celebrated his first victories in this racing series on September 10, 2008, when he again won the Super-G and the Super Combined at Mount Hutt. In 2006 Cafe had already won the New Zealand giant slalom champion and in 2008 he won the Super-G title. At the Junior World Championships , in which he participated in 2006 and 2007, he did not achieve any top placements. His best result was a 28th place in the 2007 slalom . Cafe has been taking part in races in the Nor-Am Cup since 2005 and has been among the top 20 twice so far. Since 2008, he has occasionally competed in the European Cup , but has never been among the top 50 in any race.

In February 2009, Tim Cafe took part alongside Angus Howden and Sarah Jarvis as one of three New Zealanders at the World Cup in Val-d'Isère . He finished 36th in the Super-G and 46th in the giant slalom and was the only one of his team to achieve countable results. In the slalom, however, he was disqualified in the first round. At the end of January 2010, Cafe in Kranjska Gora competed in its first two World Cup races . While he failed in the first of the two giant slaloms in the first run, in the second he only crossed the finish line as the last of the first run and thus clearly missed the qualification for the second run. Cafe's second major international event was the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . Besides Ben Griffin , he was the only New Zealand ski racer to take part. Griffin was eliminated twice, however, while Cafe scored 38th in his only Super-G appearance. In September 2010 Cafe became the New Zealand Slalom Champion.

In the 2010/2011 season Cafe again took part in two World Cup races. In the Super-G of Hinterstoder he finished last in 52nd place and in the giant slalom of Kranjska Gora he was eliminated in the first round. At his second world championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he achieved 31st place in the Super-G and 43rd place in the giant slalom, with which he achieved the best results of the three-person New Zealand team, which in addition to Cafe also included Ben Griffin and Sarah Jarvis. In the slalom, however, he was eliminated in the second round of the qualifying race.
