Tim Hegarty

Tim Hegarty (* around 1960 ) is an American jazz musician ( soprano and tenor saxophone , arrangement ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Hegarty had the opportunity to play with Art Farmer , Clark Terry and Jon Faddis when he was 14 . He then had lessons from Frank Foster . After performing with the Guggenheim Concert Orchestra at the Lincoln Center in 1984, he received a scholarship to study clarinet with Ben Armato (Metropolitan Opera). He also studied harmony and piano with Harold Danko and James Williams . In 1985 Gil Evans brought him into his band. From 1986 he studied at the University of Miami , where he took woodwind instruments, composition and arrangement. After returning to New York City in 1989, he continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music and The New School .

As a recipient of the Zoot Sims Award , he gave concerts in Spain with his band, which Brad Mehldau also belonged to. After graduating from Queens College, where he studied saxophone, composition and arrangement with Jimmy Heath and Donald Byrd , he was a member of the Gil Evans Orchestra , which performed at Sweet Basil , then the Mingus Big Band . In the following years he worked a. a. with Mike Stern , Akira Tana , Lonnie Plaxico , Ben E. King , Tom Malone and Pete Levin . In 2992 he recorded his debut album with Gil Goldstein , Mark Egan and Kenwood Dennard . In 2011 he orchestrated and arranged for Ben E. King, who made radio recordings at the Tokyo Jazz Festival . Most recently, he released the album Tribute in 2014 , which he recorded with Kenny Barron , Rufus Reid , Carl Allen and Mark Sherman . In 2019/20 he leads his own quartet, which includes Winard Harper , Charlie Sigler (guitar) and Vince Dupont (bass).
