Tintin and the Secret of the Golden Fleece is a French feature film directed in 1961 by Jean-Jacques Vierne and written by André Barret and Rémo Forlani .

action

In the first live-action adaptation of Tintin to the comic adventures of Hergé accompany Tim and Tintin Captain Haddock to Istanbul . Haddock received a letter on the death of his old friend Temistocle Paparanic , who left him his ship, the "Golden Fleece". In Istanbul, Anton Karabine, a mysterious businessman, offers him 600,000,000 Turkish lira (in the film that equates to 20 million francs) to exchange the run-down boat for a seaworthy ship.

Tim and Haddock researched relatives of the paparanics to find out that he and his crew were in government for eight days after a coup in Tétaragua (fictional country in Latin America) and that he then fled with the treasure of the central bank. They manage to find a box on an island, but Karabine steals it and escapes by helicopter. When Karabine discovers that Tim has sneaked on board as a pilot, a brief scuffle ensues. Despite a defeat, Karabine manages to throw the box over the deep sea so that no one should get the treasure. But the treasure was hidden on board the ship itself. The railing , painted green, contained the valuable gold bars.

background knowledge

The film was shot in Greece and Turkey in 1961 and is not based on any of the Tintin comics. The Franco-Belgian co-production bears the original title Tintin et le mystère de la Toison d'Or and was also released in American and British cinemas under the English title Tintin and the Golden Fleece .

In 1964 a second feature film, Tintin and Struppi and the Blue Oranges , was shot with a partly changed cast .

In Germany, the feature film was first released on DVD in 2009 by Sunfilm Entertainment at the same time as the second real-life version. The version broadcast in the GDR in 1964 is considered lost.

criticism

“One of Hergé's popular comic adventures became an entertaining real-life film that offers fun, cheerful and exciting entertainment. Photographed atmospherically coherently and with a love of detail, the film follows the very own logic of the comic strip, which leads to amusing improbabilities. "
