Timerliit [ tˢiˌmɜˈɬːiːtˢʰ ] (according to the old spelling Timerdlît ) is a desolate Greenlandic settlement in the Maniitsoq district in the Qeqqata communia .

location

Timerliit is located on the south coast of the Timerliit Nunaat peninsula at the mouth of the Kangerlussuatsiaq (Evighedsfjord). There are several islands in front of the site, the largest of which are Maniitsorsuaq and Illutalik . Eight kilometers to the west is Kangaamiut .

history

Timerliit was settled before 1875. In earlier times the place was an Udsted , but lost its status at some point. From 1911 Timerliit belonged to the municipality of Kangaamiut.

In 1918, 37 people lived in the former residential area, who lived in seven houses. The houses were incredibly poorly and poorly built. The walls were wet and the ground was swampy. In many houses there was nothing but a urine bucket. A reader taught the children in his home. The residents made their living by hunting seals and reindeer. There were seven hunters and one fisherman.

In 1939 Timerliit received a comparatively large school band. At that time, almost 70 people lived in the village. In 1944 the population reached its maximum with 79 people. By 1950 the population fell to 33 people. In the same year, Timerliit became part of the new Maniitsoq municipality . In 1956 the last people left their homes.
