Timothy Daunt

Sir Timothy Lewis Achilles Daunt ( KCMG ) (born October 11, 1935 ) is a British retired diplomat and former Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man .

Life

Daunt attended Sherborne School boarding school in Dorset , England. He later attended St Catharine's College in Cambridge .

He was inducted into the Royal Armored Corps in 1955 and later sent to the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars regiment. Daunt entered the diplomatic service and, after a number of missions, was made permanent NATO representative in Brussels in 1982 . From 1986 until his retirement in 1992 he was NATO's permanent representative in Turkey .

In retirement, he became Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man . He was in office from October 27, 1995 to September 1, 2000. His predecessor was Sir Laurence Jones , his successor Sir Ian Macfadyen . He later became chairman of the Ottoman Fund, a company that provides mortgages for real estate in Turkey.

Daunt married Patricia Susan Knight. They have three children in total. Her son James Daunt was the founder of Daunt Books and has been the managing director of the Waterstones bookstore chain since 2011 . He has two younger sisters.
