Timothy Manning
Timothy Cardinal Manning (born November 15, 1909 in Ballingeary , Ireland , † June 23, 1989 in Los Angeles , USA ) was Archbishop of Los Angeles .
Life
Timothy Manning studied in Menlo Park, California and Rome trays Catholic theology and philosophy and was on June 16, 1934 in Los Angeles for priests ordained . After further studies, he worked as a parish priest in Los Angeles from 1936 to 1938. From 1938 to 1946 he was the personal secretary of the Archbishop of Los Angeles. Then he worked again in the community pastoral care .
On August 3, 1946, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Lesvi and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He received his episcopal ordination on October 15 of the same year by the auxiliary bishop in Los Angeles, Joseph Thomas McGucken . Co - consecrators were the Superior General of the Maryknoll Missionaries , Bishop James Edward Walsh MM , and Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Arthur Connolly of San Francisco . Timothy Manning was appointed Chancellor of the Archdiocese, from 1955 he also headed the administration of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as Vicar General .
On October 16, 1967 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed first Bishop of Fresno , on May 26, 1969 Paul VI appointed him. the Titular Archbishop of Capreae and Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, whose leadership Manning with the resignation of James Francis Aloysius Cardinal McIntyre took over on 21 January 1970th
On March 5, 1973, Pope Paul VI took him. as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Lucia a Piazza d'Armi in the College of Cardinals .
Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation on July 12, 1985. Timothy Manning died in Los Angeles on June 23, 1989 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery.
