Tipton is a city and also the administrative center ( the county seat ) of Tipton County in the US -amerikanischen State Indiana . In 2010 there were 5,106 inhabitants.

history

Tipton Courthouse

The town adopted the name Tipton in honor of Brigadier General John Tipton for his service in several wars. It was founded in 1844, five years after the death of John Tipton. The county was named Tipton County in his honor .

The Tipton County Pork Festival has been held in Tipton since 1969 . Pig farming is widespread in the region and the festival is used as an opportunity to show agricultural products, hold a parade and invite people to barbecue with spare ribs . The festival traditionally takes place on Labor Day each year.
