history

Origin of the name

The derivation of the name has not yet been investigated more intensively. Colloquially, the mountain is also referred to as Peindl (in Czech Pejndl ) for short .

Observation tower

The 26 meter high observation tower with 1.3 meter thick stone walls and a square floor plan with a side length of 5 meters was built by the Neudeker Erzgebirgszweigverein in 1895–97 . The inauguration was on September 1, 1897, the construction costs amounted to 4,000, according to other sources, 6,000 guilders. Master builder Schöberle had this tower built on the top of a ten meter high granite rock, blocks made of this granite were also used for construction.

If you stand on the viewing platform, you are - if you take into account the previously given altitude of the mountain of 974 meters above the Adriatic - exactly 1000 meters above the Adriatic or 1003 meters above the sea .

On June 7, 1908, the new annex was opened to the left of the tower entrance, in which food and drinks were sold to the visitors. This refuge fell into disrepair after the Second World War and was demolished. The tower itself was also badly damaged and threatened to collapse. After 1989 the tower was renovated so that it has become a lively destination again. Furthermore, a wooden shed was built to the left of the tower entrance, in which wooden deck chairs are available. The tower is freely accessible, in 1995 it was declared a cultural monument.

view

View from Peindlberg to the south (Nejdek in the foreground)

In the north the view is blocked by the Ore Mountains ridge. In the east you can see Fichtelberg , Keilberg and the Pleßberg , which is particularly striking due to its tower , and to the right of it the Wölfling ( Vlčinec , 973 m). In the south is near below the mountain Nejdek . In the extensive north Bohemian plain, Karlsbad and Chodov stand out, in the distance you can see the foothills of the Bohemian Forest . In the west the view extends to Eger and the Fichtel Mountains .

Routes to the summit

  • From Nejdek (Neudek) the path leads to Tisová (Eibenberg) and from there follow roads, forest and hiking trails to the summit for approx. 7 km.
  • The distance from the Tisová stop at the Kuckuck Inn is about 3 km.
